An affirmation is a declaration that something is true, that whatever you are 'affirming' has already happened.
Affirmations are positive, personal statements about something you want. So affirmations need to be said in present tense.
For example "I am..." or "I have....", or "I receive.....
Affirmations need to state what you do want, not what you dont want. for example, if you no longer want to be in financial debt, it's no good saying "I no longer have debt in my life" because you are affirming the negative and so you will bring more of that in to your life. So try saying "I now live a prosperous life" or "my savings continue to grow", "I pay all my bills on time" or "money comes to me in abundance" - you get the picture?
About 6 years ago my husband and I were going through a particularly trying time in our relationship. I wrote an affirmation in my journal, and continued to write that affirmation every single day, as well as saying it out loud (and when I was by myself :-). My affirmation was (& still is) "I am so happy and grateful to have a loving, strong and happy marriage". This daily affirmation ritual went on for months and over time things began to improve, we started being so much nicer to each other, kinder and more appreciative and telling each other how appreciative of the other we were.
When my husband was unexpectedly diagnosed with a very aggressive form on Lymphoma at the end of 2011 my affirmation changed a little. I'd say 'I am so happy and grateful to have a loving strong and happy marriage" - and I added to it "blessed with good health and abundance".
Throughout his treatment I continued to say my affirmations (and I still do) and I'm very happy to report that there is now no sign of any cancer and he has been in remission for over twelve months, and we continue to enjoy our loving, strong and happy marriage!
Affirmations can become a very easy, positive habit to develop. Just as cleaning your teeth becomes a necessary habit, so too can affirmations!
And the more you say them, (quietly to yourself, or out loud) or try singing them, and writing them - you'll find yourself manifesting the things you desire. You'll start 'doing' the things that will move you forward into the direction of the dreams and life you want to create.
Try it! And remember:
- state your affirmations as if they have already happened. If you state them in the future (eg I will), then that's where they'll stay - in the future!
- Always state your affirmations in the positive, what you DO want, not what you don't want
- Include words that convey positive energy, eg. fantastic, exciting, happy, wonderful .... etc
I'll be sharing and teaching even more about affirmations and visualisations on Saturday 24th August, when I present a 'Heal Your Life' 1 Day workshop at Yea, in Victoria. Details can be found on the 'Upcoming Workshop Dates' page and the 'Bookings' Page.
Please feel free to post your feedback, your experiences and results in the space below, I'd love to hear!
Until next week ....
