Time for my regular blog (as opposed to my '30 day challenge' blog), and today I wanted to write about the importance of having balance in your life so you don't topple over, like the table on the left is about to do!
Years ago I learnt the importance of always having '4 legs to support your table' - it was an analogy I'd .....
In my business it went something like this: 4 legs represented 4 different methods of advertising. (those methods could have been any number of different methods), but just so that you get the idea : 1. newspaper ads, 2. online ads, 3. talk to people, 4. flyers.
I always made sure I had ALL 4 methods happening all the time. The 4 methods represented the 4 legs of the table and therefore was very stable! Let's say it rained all week & the home delivered weekly newspapers were all wet & got thrown in the bin. If that was my ONLY method - then I'd have lost that 'method' for the week & consequently no chance of bringing in new business.
If I had 4 methods happening all the time, then if the wet newspaper scenario happened, I still had 3 other methods happening to bring in new business. The table with 3 legs was a bit wobbly but was still standing.
So you can imagine with only 2 methods - I'd have a 2 legged table! Very lopsided & it would fall over.
OK so you get the picture?
So in our everyday LIFE - we can also use the 4 legged table analogy to ensure we have balance in our lives! And those 4 legs could be : 1. Work, 2. Relationships & Play time, 3. Rest or Quiet time, 4. Health & Fitness.
Let's expand on that a little:
- Work - spending a certain amount of time each day or week in your chosen vocation, whether that's in your own business or working at your job or whatever it is that gives you your income.
- Relationships & Play time - Making sure no 1. (work) doesn't take over and prevent you from spending time with family, friends, loved ones and 'playing'!
- Rest or Quiet time - so, so important! Whether your 'rest' time is through meditation, or a walk or jog by yourself, or simply sitting quietly in the garden or in nature, ensure that you spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day to re-charge.
- Health & Fitness - you don't have to become a gym junkie but by simply being 'active' and being aware of what you eat and drink can make a huge difference to your state of health. Regular exercise can improve your heart function. Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day (walking, swimming, or cycling) can be of great benefit to your health and well being, remembering of course that good nutrition is vital! (A 1,000 calorie meal will require you to walk for approx 5 hours to work off those calories!), so become aware of what you're eating :-)
So that's your '4 legs', (of course, your legs could vary!). The key with this is to remain consistent in those 4 things, so that you keep that balance!
Perhaps start with a 'tick sheet' so you can keep track of what you ARE doing and what's missing out, until you get that balance happening.
I hope that's helped? As always, I'd love your comments and feedback and please share below what you do! Perhaps your 'offering' could inspire and help somebody else ?!
Right then.... I'm off to play now!
Cheers till next time
