Our 'self-talk' can have a huge impact on our very being, on our attitude, and that attitude in turn can impact on how our day, week, month even year pans out......
More recently, I clearly remember using positive Self Talk to get me to the end of a 3 kilometre "time trial". A run that I'd challenged myself to do - alone. Running alone, meant I could have easily just pulled out, stopped, walked home etc. - what would it have mattered? Let me tell you there was some serious conversations happening with myself, and what do you know? I knocked almost 2 minutes off my best time! Good ol' Positive Self Talk!
Sometimes we can be totally unaware of how defeating and negative our self talk is. Think of how often you might say things to yourself like:
- I'm such an idiot!
- I'm so stupid!
- Geez I'm fat!
- I hate my shape
- No way I could do that!
- I'll never be able to ........ (fill in the blank!)
- A holiday? As if I'd ever be able to take a holiday
You get the picture? Becoming aware is the first step! So start listening to yourself, not just in your own 'self talk' but in conversations you have with other people. How often do you berate yourself? How often are you putting yourself down?
Becoming aware of what you say and how you say it, is the first step to healing yourself and moving forward in a positive direction.
Imagine saying "I am SO clever!" or "I love myself just the way I am" or "I could actually give that a try!" Notice how your body responds when you say something positive to yourself. Notice how your shoulders pull back, your chest expands and your head lifts up as you start to state affirmations of positivity! Stating "I can" instead of "I cant"!
Remember the sooner you start listening to yourself, the quicker you'll become aware and can make changes that will impact positively today, next week, next month, next year! But you have to start today!
I'll be sharing and teaching even more about Positive Self Talk on Saturday 24th August, when I present a 'Heal Your Life' 1 Day workshop at Yea, in Victoria. Details can be found on the 'Upcoming Workshop Dates' page and the 'Bookings' Page, and I'd love to see YOU there !
Please feel free to post your feedback, your experiences and results in the space below, I'd love to hear!
